Now disco legends Sister Sledge have revealed they're coming back with a bang - this time involving members of their extended family.

Following Joni's death aged 60 in 2017, the group is rebranding as Sister Sledge ft. Sledgendary, featuring original member Debbie, her children Camille and David, and nephew Thaddeus Sledge - the son of Joni.

While they may be keeping it in the family, the new additions to the band are all performers in their own right.
Debbie's daughter Camille is the lead vocalist for the highly praised Phoenix Afrobeat Orchestra in Arizona, while Debbie's son David has opened for musical legends such as ABC, Earth Wind and Fire and Bruno Mars.
Following in his late mother Joni's footsteps, Thaddeus is currently performing a series of jazz influenced solo concerts in Copenhagen.
While Tanya may not be a blood relative, she has been part of the Sister Sledge family for a decade, performing backing vocals with the group.

Sister Sledge was formed in Philadelphia in 1971 by sisters Debbie, Kim, Joni and Kathy and tried for eight years to break the music business.
After coming close to giving up the sisters then met Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers of the hit group Chic, and their breakout soon came.
The pair wrote and produced their album We Are Family, and soon the women had their first major hit with disco jam The Greatest Dancer, which became a top 10 hit in May 1979. The tune was sampled years later for Will Smith's hit Getting Jiggy Wit It.
Their biggest hit came a month later with the title track, an infectious dance anthem that celebrated their familial connection with the refrain, 'We are family, I got all my sisters with me.'
While it celebrated their sisterhood, the 1979 hit so also became an anthem for female empowerment and unity.
It would become their signature hit, and was nominated for a Grammy. Both the song and album sold more than one million copies.

Going solo: In 1989, Kathy left the group to perform as a solo artist, and her three sisters continued to gig as Sister Sledge, even performing for Pope Francis in 2015 (pictured in 2018)
In 1989, Kathy left the group to perform as a solo artist, and her three sisters continued to gig as Sister Sledge, even performing for Pope Francis in 2015.
Although Kathy would occasionally join the trio on stage, she was caught up in a lawsuit until December 2021 that prevented her from performing using the Sister Sledge brand.
In 2017, the Sledge family were left shocked when Joni suddenly died from 'natural causes' at the age of just 60.
While, Kathy and Kim have not joined new group Sister Sledge ft. Sledgendary, Kathy insisted there is no bad blood between the sisters.
Speaking to PA last month, she revealed: 'I would never fight with my sisters. I want that to be known.'
